[VLOG]: A Day in Downtown Madison

July 6, 2016 Katie Wright

Hi everyone, Katie here again! Huntsville isn’t the only downtown area in Madison County- there’s lots to do in downtown Madison too, like shopping, eating, and even a new scavenger hunt.

Shopping in downtown Madison

My first stop was at the Cotton Gin Boutique to check out their clothing and accessories. They have sections organized by color, which is super helpful for people like me who generally wear the same colors over and over. They have t-shirts made of the softest, most comfortable fabric, as well as candles, colorful bags, shoes, beautiful jewelry, and more! I bought the cutest navy sleeveless shirt that will be so perfect for summer.

Next I headed to Madison Station Antiques to browse some slightly older items. Housed in Madison’s oldest commercial building (built in 1857), Madison Station Antiques is packed full of furniture, glass, pottery, books, and so much more. I could explore in there for hours!

Eating in downtown Madison

There’s no shortage of great places to eat downtown. Sady’s Bistro has an awesome selection of sandwiches, many of which are served on locally baked bread from FredBread. Or you could enjoy your meal in a jail cell – Main Street Cafe is housed in the former city hall. I wanted to have a local beer with my lunch, so I ate at Old Black Bear Brewery. My sister got the turkey sandwich and the Speckled Trout American Wheat, while I had the garlic parmesan wings and the Bavarian Hefeweizen, all of which were delicious! The patio area is so beautiful, especially during this gorgeous weather.

Trains on Main Scavenger Hunt

If you’re looking for an activity for the kids, or just want to learn more about historic Madison, there’s a great new scavenger hunt downtown called Trains on Main. Eight bronze train sculptures are hidden around the downtown area, and clue cards to help you find them are located at Madison City Hall and the Madison Chamber of Commerce. If you find them all, you win a prize!

There’s lots to see and do in downtown Madison, from signing up for an exercise class at Pure Barre, to catching a concert at the gazebo, to shopping and eating at some of the county’s finest establishments. This quaint downtown area has all the charm of small-town living you could ask for!

Getting Fit for 2016

Katie Wright is a southerner, an explorer, a student, and an old lady at heart. She was born and raised in the south, but abandoned her homeland during her early twenties for the allure of places such as New Zealand and Northern England. After completing her studies, she returned to the sweet sunny south and is now an archaeologist by day and a blogger/vlogger by night. Other hobbies include baking, crocheting, researching local history (like I said… old lady), and putting things in her online shopping cart and then never buying them.
