Happy New Year everyone! Katie here again, and in the spirit of new beginnings, I’m showing you some of the construction here in Huntsville that will be partially or completely finished in 2017. Huntsville is growing, and it’s so exciting!
Campus No. 805
Although many of Campus No. 805’s tenants have been open for a while, new ones are slated to open in 2017. The Student Union is home to Rock ‘n’ Roll Sushi and Fringe Salon, but Wish You Were Beer and VapeSouth are both slated to open in the new year! Furthermore, the second floor of the main school building is now open, with the first tenants being announced in early January. Campus No. 805 is already such a fun place to hang out with your friends, and I can’t wait to find out who the remaining tenants are.
The Garage at Clinton Row
Clinton Avenue is quickly becoming a Huntsville hotspot. Joining U.G. White Mercantile, Pints and Pixels, The Bottle, and the Clinton Row shops is The Garage at Clinton Row. A section of the ground floor of the Clinton parking garage has been renovated to include at least six new shops, each highlighting innovative and regional businesses. At the time of publication, Elitaire Boutique, Roosevelt and Company Haberdashery, and Meraki Boutique are all open and Frios Popsicles, Honest Coffee Roasters, and Greasy Hands Barbershop have all been announced. I love that these are local entrepreneurs, and I am so impressed with how beautiful and unique the shops are! If you didn’t get everything on your Christmas list, I would definitely recommend swinging by a shop or two…
With all the new development happening downtown, a need for more housing is expected. Enter: The Avenue. This mixed-use development has 190 rooms, including one-, two-, and three-bedroom options, and retail space along the ground floor. The rooms are beautiful, modern, and spacious, and the amenities are amazing! From a salt-water infinity pool, to the two cozy and chic galleries, to the fitness center complete with yoga studio, you’ll feel right at home. Plus, it’s within walking distance of bars, restaurants, breweries, churches, museums, and so much more! Church Street Purveyor has been announced as the first retail business on the ground floor, and make sure you stay tuned to see who will join them!
CityCentre at Big Spring
This one is a doozy! If you’re local, I’m sure you’ve noticed the big pile of mud where Big Spring Park used to be. This is all part of a much larger, $100 million mixed-use development called CityCentre. The project will have two hotels, apartment homes, retail space, office space, and an artisanal food hall. It will connect Big Spring Park and the Von Braun Center with Twickenham Square, adding to the walkability of Huntsville! Since it’s such a big project, it will likely open in phases, but the latest estimate says at least one hotel will be open in 2017.
I for one am very excited for all the development in 2017 and can’t wait to see how these projects transform Huntsville. What do you think?

Katie Wright is a southerner, an explorer, a student, and an old lady at heart. She was born and raised in the south, but abandoned her homeland during her early twenties for the allure of places such as New Zealand and Northern England. After completing her studies, she returned to the sweet sunny south and is now an archaeologist by day and a blogger/vlogger by night. Other hobbies include baking, crocheting, researching local history (like I said… old lady), and putting things in her online shopping cart and then never buying them.
